What made you want to be a part of Scrap Outside the Box?
-I wanted to be a part of this team because I love to be challenged. And to me it is incredibly challenging to use items like toothpicks and bandaids in a layout - but its also oh-so-fun!

What's your most prized possession?
-My most prized possession is a stuffed animal that i have - a frog named Lieutenant Hoppy (weird, I know). He was a gift from an important person. :)

Who is your role model?
-My role model is my grandmother. The woman is amazing - she's almost 95 years old and is still going strong. She raised amazing children and grandchildren and worked hard all her life - I hope I can be half the woman that she is.

We wanted you to get to know our Design Team a little more, so we did a short little Q&A. Up first, the lovely Miss Gina:

What made you want to be a part of Scrap Outside the Box? I love keeping anything that is not scrapbook related and I tend to hoard everything knowing I will use it on a page or on a cute craft for my house. I knew I would be the perfect fit for the team.

What's the most unique thing about you? Hmmm that is a hard one.

What's your most prized possession? Toss up between my wedding rings and my charm bracelet. My dad bought me my charm bracelet when I was 71/2 -8 and I love it. ( i left out pictures but everyone would say that )

Who is your role model? Not sure if I really have one but I look up too Sharon Osbourne, Elsie and Pink. I think these 3 women are very strong women and great role models. If you would have asked me in 1985 I would have said Madonna--oh how we change.

Design Team Call

Yes, you heard me right. We are having another SOTB Design Team call. As we had 3 DT members step down, we are looking for some major shoes to fill. :)

If you are interested, here is what you'll need to know for the call:

1. Entries are due by November 26, 2009. (that gives you 2 weeks)
2. How to enter:
Send us (scrapoutsidethebox@hotmail.com) some sample layouts using non-traditional scrapbooking items, along with your contact information and a short bio telling us why you would like to be a part of our design team. Please include any links to you online gallery or blog. (We want to see your style)

Hello cutie scrappers!!! Elaine here. I wanted to put together a little avant garde grid of some ideas to get you goin on this current challenge! There are so many CUUUUUTE clothing tags out there that you can alter or just leave as is!

Things you could do with your clothing tags:

*paint them
*alter them
*leave them plain and utilize natural patterns
*mod podge
*make a mini completely of tags
*staple just the tops to your layout and make peek-a-boo panels
*collage
*create a background completely of tags
*use one as a tiiiiiny wall hanging
*recycle them as gift tags
*write affirmations on each one and stick them in a jar
*showcase all your new summer purchases!

I hope this really jump starts your creative little brains! Let's see what ya got!

An exciting opportunity!

We have a super sweet opportunity for you and for us. :] Scrap Outside the Box is going to be a magazine, providing you more than just one challenge a month, but a magazine full of them. We still will have a monthly challenge on here every month as well. We want you to get involved with this project. If you are interested in getting your layouts published and contributing to this exciting new endeavor, the process is simple. Hey all you Scrappers outside the boxes! haha I'm here to introduce the newest members of our DESIGN TEAM! Soooo without further ado: MEET THE NEW GIRLS!

WE asked them a few questions to get to know them better:

SARAH

1. Sarah
2. I am 24 going on 25 (in the tune of I am 16 going on 17 from the Sound of Music)
3. Paper! ...because it's the backbone to scrapping. Without paper, I don't know where I would start.
4. I don't think I have a specific style when it comes to scrapping. I love to be versatile and try new things, but I tend to keep it vibrant and fresh looking.

6. Shopping for scrap supplies. It's such an addiction, and I can't seem to break it. I buy stuff when I know I don't even need it!
7. When I see people that are completely content in their lives although they don't have much... that inspires me. I love seeing people laugh and smile - that gives me the strength to think that life is actually a wonderful place.
8. I know A LOT of sign language.

3. embroidery thread, buttons, and anything by 7 gypsies. oh the possibilities!
4. my style is constantly evolving into something different. i go through phases; lately my layouts have had a romantic, shabby chic vibe. i am obsessed with the vintage look as well - distress inks are my friend. i love doing simple, one photo layouts with a lot of attention to tiny details.
5. My favorite from way back when would have to be Jem. she was so awesome, having her own band and her own music company. i was also drawn to all the bright colors, her outfits were amazing. she rocks!
6. The office. that tv show is my absolute "go to" when i need a laugh. it doesn't matter what is going on, thursday nights will always revolve around the office.
7. Music. i love translating lyrics and sounds into visual effects for my art. i get really wrapped up in radiohead, they constantly make me think in different ways. i'm also inspired by fashion, mainly for new color combinations. i'm currently experimenting with grey, white and orange.
8. Ever since i was little i've wanted to be a dentist. most are shocked, mainly because people tend to have horrific experiences at the dentist, but i love it. i'm about to graduate with my bachelor's degree in biological sciences and am applying to dental school next year :]

3. everything that is in my sight gets put into my scrapbook pages. i love embroidery floss. vintage buttons. big, fat lace. total non-acid free stuff that totally doesnt belong in a scrapbook, but totally rocks. rub ons. paint. the swirl bling stuff is awesome. you name it.
4. my scrapping style is similar to the starbucks flavor of the hour. it is ever changing and i love that. i love to pile goodies on. distress EVERYTHING. i sand the edges of almost all of my photos. add lots of flowers or rad flair buttons. masking tape and hand stitching details. i love it all. oh,, and i recientally learned that by my getting over my ahem *hoarding* issue, im happier with the results. so use that rad embeli that youve been haording for like seven months,, its soooo much fun!!!
5. ariel. sound cliche?? well, if you sang like ariel {like i do} you wouldnt think so. alright, alright, thats a total lie. i suck at singing,,, really i adore ariel because a} shes a mermaid. RAD and b} i love that she is a dreamer. much like myself. i have a stop at nothing attitude. i never think that any situation is out of my reach. i truly know i can obtain anything.
6. cupcakes and victorias secret {PINK}.
7. dr seuss. my children. song lyrics. my darling friend carrie. bright colors. rad books. childrens movies.
8. i am a ninja. oh, and i might be the most sarcastic person you know that also happens to be the most gullible. {seriously how did i end up with these two traits???} oh, and now thanks to elaine ~ i totally want a tattoo on my inner wrist that says *create* {dont worry girl, i wont copy cat,, but that sounds wicked}!!!

4. My scrapping style is totally random and eclectic. I like BRIGHT colors and wacky patterns. However, I do have to balance it out with solids so your eyes don't pop too far out of your head looking at my pages.
5. Hmmm...I would totally be Belle from Beauty and the Beast...She finds beauty and happiness in almost everyone (even the Beast). She's passionate about her family and sacrifices herself for her father. She's content with who she is.

Hey hey HEY chicas! ELaine, here! I just wanted to do a little posty-post about our fantastic...

We're looking for a few AWESOME FUN SPUNKY UNIQUE and COLORFUL girls to be a part of this awesome DT. C'mon, don't be shy--you know it would be awesome.

For our design team, we obviously use on our layouts a different common item each time. YOu most likely don't need to purchase anything because its things we have around our houses!!! WE email each other frequently and discuss which products we want to use and have our layouts ready early so we can post the challenge. It's SO much fun!

Challenge #2

Woo hoo! So here we go: For our second challenge, I want you to use painter's tape on your layout in some form. This is such a fun challenge. You will have until March 1st to post your layout. The winner will be announced by March 3rd. I have a super prize pack for the winner with some cool things from my etsy shop.

Elaine: (She used gesso on her tape to create this super sweet layout!)

Bekah: (I loved the blue on the tape, so I just sanded the tape a little and kept the layout super simple!)

Hip Hip Hooray!!!!!! Today is the Day!!!!!!

So here it is: Our first challenge! Oh, I'm so excited! I'm starting with something easy that you should be able to find around your house. Otherwise, you can go get these from the store for fairly inexpensive. Here goes:

Create a layout using Post-it Notes. Be creative. Think outside the box, now!

I know with all of the different colors, patterns, and shapes that you will find something perfect for your layout. I've used them as a journaling box, an embellishment, and as a background. I want to see what you can do!!!! :]

Elaine wasn't able to design a layout for this challenge, because she has been without internet and sicky. Send her some love here.

You have until January 31st to complete this challenge, and post a link in a comment to your layout! I can't wait to see!!! I know you all are so talented! Best of all, we have a prize pack going to the winner we choose:

Hey everyone! We are so, so excited about this new challenge blog! Scrap Outside the Box came to me after seeing a lot of inspiring things that could be used on scrapbook pages. We have soo many cool ideas to rock your pages like never before. A lot of the things we are going to challenge you to use can be found around the house. Others can be easily bought.
